About SpeedFerries Low Cost Fast Ferry Company

The History of SpeedFerries

SpeedFerries successfully launched the world's first low cost fast ferry company in May 2004 and has had an effect on the ferry industry similar to that of low cost airlines in the airline industry.

During the set up and preparations for the opening of its service, SpeedFerries did its utmost to foresee all possible developments, however there were a number of events during the first summer which came as a surprise.

SpeedFerries quickly realized that the concept of a low cost ferry service, introducing low cost airline styled pricing to the ferry market, was so unpopular within the industry that SpeedFerries found itself in an extremely hostile market the extent of which it had never envisaged.

Strong support by loyal customers during a difficult start up period and SpeedFerries' determination to "Fight the Pirates," saved the company and secured the success of the Dover-Boulogne fast ferry service.

Following SpeedFerries' launch, the average sales price of car tickets on the Dover Strait has reduced dramatically, benefiting all cross-Channel travellers.

SpeedFerries continues it’s commitment of offering cross-Channel prices at an acceptable level whilst providing a high quality, low cost ferry service.
